History of Glen Ellyn
The first settlers on the land that is known as Glen Ellyn today came from such places as Ohio, New England, Pennsylvania and New York. Growth was somewhat slow in the town until the railroad built a depot in the area during 1849. It was at this time that the town was named Danby after the current postmaster's hometown in Vermont. However, with the completion of Lake Glen Ellyn in 1889, the town was renamed Glen Ellyn and incorporated in 1892.
